Every day consumers and businesses rely on measuring instruments they often never think about. From energy meters and fuel dispensers to weighing systems and industrial measurement equipment, these technologies play a vital role in fair trade, safety, and regulatory compliance.

 

Before these instruments can be placed on the market, they must be thoroughly tested and assessed against national and international requirements. This is where NMi plays an important role.

 

For our laboratory in Delft, we are looking for a Laboratory Test Engineer Measurement Technologies who enjoys working hands-on with technology and investigation how products perform under real-world conditions. In this role, you help determine whether measuring instruments comply with legal and technical requirements by conduction a wide range of tests in our laboratories.

 

Working closely with Certification Engineers, you prepare and execute test plans, perform measurements, and document your findings. The role combines practical laboratory work with technical analysis and offers exposure to a wide variety of measurement technologies.

 

As a Laboratory Test Engineer, you play a key role in the certification process. By carrying out tests accurately and consistently, you provide the technical evidence needed to assess whether measuring instruments comply with applicable standards and regulations. Your work contributes directly to the reliability and trustworthiness of measurement systems used worldwide.

 

What you’ll do:

  • Prepare laboratory activities and test set-ups for certification projects under the guidance of Certification Engineers

  • Configure and operate laboratory equipment, measuring instruments, and test environments

  • Record, analyse, and document test results in a structured and accurate manner

  • Verify that testing activities are carried out in accordance with established procedures and quality requirements

  • Support Certification Engineers by providing technical test data, observations, and findings

  • Contribute to the efficient execution of certification and testing projects while maintaining high quality standards

  • Help maintain a safe, organized, and effective laboratory environment

  • Continuously develop your knowledge of measurement technologies, testing methods, and relevant standards

Job requirements

What you bring

  • An MBO or HBO degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field

  • Knowledge of mechanical constructions and electronic circuits

  • Experience setting up and executing technical of electronic tests

  • An analytical mindset and a structured way of working

  • The ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with colleagues

  • A valid VCA certificate or willingness to obtain one

  • Strong communication skills in both Dutch and English

  • A practical mindset, healthy curiosity, and a passion for understanding how technologies work
